Days of The Week (Films Watched 5/21 - 5/27)

I passed the threshold of 100 new movies watched this year. Only took me 148 days. Not sure whether to be proud or depressed.

That said, it was another week with less viewing than I have become accustomed to. Part of me wants to think that the social butterfly that is Sasha James is the culprit here, but I'm also starting to think that this will just be the way of things for the next six weeks at least.

But what I lacked in quantity this week, I more than made up for in quality. So tally-ho!

Here's what was on tap...

Screenings
ATTACK THE BLOCK - Not sure when it's going to drop in North America, but check it out when it does.
HIGH ON HOPE - NXNE Film: Kinda made me regret never going to a rave.
COLOR ME OBSESSED - NXNE Film: Pardon me, I'm off to buy a big 'ol handful of Replacements.

Blu-Rays/DVD's I've Watched Before
2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY - I think that 70mm screening earlier this year spoiled me.
INCEPTION - Almost a year later, it still slays.
OUT OF SIGHT - "You wanted to tussle..."

Boxscore for The Year
102 First-Timers, 72 Re-Watched
174 Movies in Total

How's about you - seen anything good?

A sad overdose on Kate Hudson movies (10), which should be outlawed. Only one good one in there; I'm sure you can guess it in a heartbeat.

Plus an impromptu screening of Bridesmaids when I suddenly found myself sans kiddo and hubs for a few hours this afternoon.

No one has ever called me a social butterfly. I am slightly disturbed.

I finally saw The Apartment. Such a lovely film...and it gives me so much joy to think that romcoms won Oscars once upon a time.

@ Rachel... They can't all be Bale-like champions. I like Hudson, but she has a tendency to do some true crap.

@ Sasha... Well you are one disturbing girl. Not sure if Lady Hatter is going to know what to do with herself today: it's the first time y'all haven't hung out since last Monday!

@ Nik... One of my all-time favorites! I'd give my right arm to be able to write half as good as Billy Wilder.

Finally saw Meek's Cutoff on Friday. Anyone who knows me knows I will automatically love anything Michelle Williams is in (she still won't return my calls though!?). Definitely not for everyone (as was the case with the remarkable Wendy and Lucy) but a gorgeous film. Best of 2011 so far (though considering I will be seeing The Tree of Life on Tuesday, that may only last for five days).

Also just watch Hausu (aka House, aka, that batshitcrazy Japanese horror-comedy-whatever creature) again - this time on 35mm at the Harrisburg Film Festival. It is a movie everyone needs to see - sort of Dario Argento meets Sid & Marty Krofft.

As for my running total:
202 First-Timers (including 43 New Releases), 18 Re-Watched
220 Movies in Total

Wow, I am quite the film nerd, eh?

I've been looking forward to watching Out of Sight again. Especially on Blu-ray.

I need to see Attack the Block. It's for my health.

@ Kevyn... My amigos over at Row Three have been talking Meeks up to no end, so I might have to finally pull the trigger and check it out. *LOVE* Hausu!! Bob from Eternal Sunshine talked a bunch of us into seeing a screening of it last fall, and I could not possibly have been prepared for the lunacy i was about to witness.

202 first-timers for the year, eh? That's hardcore!!

@ Fitz... I still have a rule about not upgrading dvd's to blu-ray, but if anything would make me pull the trigger...OUT OF SIGHT would be a candidate.

@ Simon... Watch the skies. I'd guess it'll drop in August.
