Did you find yourself pining for hatter's take on the Oscar nominations? It's okay...I really didn't either. But if you're interested, here they are!
And check it out - we managed to get things in under eighty minutes this time.
Listening back to some of this, it's amazing to think about how much can change so quickly in the Oscar race. You'll hear Marya mention what it could mean "if Tom Hooper were to win the DGA award". Now that it's happened, bits of this conversation...recorded just four days ago...could go very differently. C'est la vie!

Interesting listen. Here are my thoughts on the main categories:
Best Picture: I think Inception was the best movie, but just isn’t Oscar friendly so I don’t see it winning. My second choice would be Winter’s Bone, again I don’t think it is big enough for the Oscars, after The Hurt Locker won last year I think they will go for something more well known and most probably The Social Network. Although not my choice I won’t be upset if it does win.
Best Directing: I can see the reasoning behind splitting best picture and best director, some movies are more directed than others if that makes sense. An example of these would be Black Swan and The Social Network. I would be happy to see either of these win but expect it to be The Social Network. Christopher Nolan really should be nominated in this category.
Best Actor : It has to be Colin Firth both for The King’s Speech and because he missed out last year. As you alluded to Javier Bardem is the dark horse, don’t know if you have seen Biutiful since recording, it’s a good film not a great one but his performance is brilliant and Hollywood does seem to have a lot of love for him.
Best Actress: I can’t see beyond Natalie Portman for this one, as much as I loved Black Swan and loved her in it I would have given it to Jennifer Lawrence for Winter’s Bone.
Best Supporting Actor: This is a tricky one for me as I haven’t seen The Fighter yet but from what I have seen (all the other nominated films) I would go for John Hawkes.
Best Supporting Actress: I will have to reserve judgment on this one, the only nominated film I have seen is The King’s Speech. The big omission for me is Lesley Manville for Another Year.
@ Fandango... Curious to know what you eventually end up thinking of THE FIGHTER and TRUE GRIT.
I still haven't seen BIUTIFUL (yet) but should be seeing it within a week or so...stay tuned to The Matinee for a review!
