Circus (WATER FOR ELEPHANTS Trailer)

This is the sort of trailer that leaves me a tad perplexed.

It's possible that it might offer something memorable...or it's possible that it might not be anything more than "pretty pictures". Pattinson has never really done much for me, but I'm willing to give the guy some latitude and chalk that up more to the material he's been doing than the work he's been doing in it.

Bets on whether it's sublime or silly?

It feels like Fried Green Tomatoes gone Circus style!

I think it looks decent, but don't have the highest hopes. I have a strange measuring stick for some films based on their trailers: if the trailer borrows music from another film's superb score (in this case The Assassination of Jesse James) then the film will likely be ok, but nothing fantastic. It's just a strange trend I've noticed, but I'm sure there are exceptions.

I'm not sure about this one, either. I haven't read the book so I don't know much about the story, but from the trailer I thought it looked interesting and pretty until I realized it starred Robert Pattinson. I might hold out for some reviews before I make up my mind.

It actually looks ok to me, I'm intrigued by it. But then again Pattinson sold me on Remember Me so I guess I'm more inclined to give this a chance. It probably will fall in between sublime and silly :)

@ Joel... Can't say I've seen Fried Green Tomatoes.

@ Rachel... Never thought about judging based on the score, but that's not a bad idea seeing as how so many of them steal scores from other films. I should start paying attention to how original trailers are with the songs they pick too.

I might be the guinea pig for this film for ya...but no promises yet.

@ Alex... Didn't realize it was based on a book. I think I'll skim it the next time I'm in the bookstore and use that to make my decision.

@ Ruth... It is certainly intriguing...I'm beginning to get the feeling that it'll either be bang on, or way off.

I've read the book on which the film is based. From the looks of it, it will be pretty loyal to the original source. That being said, the book isn't anything amazing. The film could possibly improve on some of its aspects, but I'm not holding my breath. I'm not a fan of Robert Pattinson OR Reese Witherspoon. The only thing that could make me watch it at this point would be Christoph Waltz because I really think he'd be great at playing that character.

By the end of the trailer, though, I wanted to watch The Assassination of Jesse James again. Great film. Great score!

I'm on the same boat. The trailer doesn't do anything for me. I like Reese and I'm willing to give Pattinson a chance but this isn't a movie I would watch even on Netflix.

I'm hoping for sublime, maybe in a "Big Fish" tone. To be honest, I'm still not expecting much from Pattinson, but Christoph Waltz is what's getting me into the theater From the trailer, it looks like Witherspoon is giving us something decent as well, so I'm ready for this to be released.

Hatter ... HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE??? How have you not seen Fried Green Tomatoes ... Sheeesh!!!! I'm not even sure I have words for that!

I will probably give this a chance ... when it's released on DVD. Patterson has got some real acting chops when he's not contractually obligated to twinkle O_o.

It doesn't seem like it'll be something that needs a big screen to me.

I am equally surprised you haven't seen Fried Green Tomatoes. I thought Lady Hatter would have force fed it to you a couple of times already! She needs to get on that.

Actually it could be your contribution for the retro series of old films being watched for the first time.

@ Laura... Interesting. Knowing that the book isn't anything special is a good tidbit, and of course it leaves me in less of a rush to see this.

@ Castor... Would you change the channel if it was on TV?

@ Susie... Dear lord - as if I don't have enough post-Christmas watching to do??

@ Nerdvampire... I'm hoping for sublime too, but judging what people are saying here, that's sounding less likely.

@ danger... Feel free to berate me at The Lightbox tonight for my Green Tomato ignorance.

@ Joel... She doesn't own it. I might write about it after I watch it, but no promises.

Don't think much of it as an idea but I'll give anything with Reese Witherspoon a go
