21 Thoughts on TIFF 2010
22 films in 11 days - ya gotta love it.THE KING'S SPEECH - a film I didn't see - won the audience choice award this year.As for my favorites, BLACK SWAN, 127 HOURS, and CHICO & RITA are the ones that'll stick with me.I can't remember the last time I saw Lady Hatter so little. I sure did miss her.BUNRAKU earns the annual "Film That Sailed Past Hatter Award".My photo-taking was way down this year. Guess that's what happens when they make the star-studded events a higher-priced ticket.I'm gonna miss the cinematic insanity of films like BALADA TRISTE and I SAW THE DEVILNewfound respect for Simon & Jo. Don't know how you guys do such a great job of those podcasts on the fly - I got nervous as hell!Lordy did the last weekend ever feel like everyone had already checked out. This festival also had me walking out of only my second film in the nine years I've been going to TIFFScreenings of LET ME IN were low attended. Make of that what you will.Quick show of hands - who's actually sick of hearing about TIFF on The Matinee?Every year I come away feeling like there were half a dozen better film selections than those I picked.Pretty sure the "Most Memorable Scene" award goes to the finale of TAMARA DREWEGotta love handing a stranger our business card and hearing them say "Hey, I've read your site".It was a welcome switch knowing so many friends doing TIFF as well.I also made a few new friends during the festival, so hello to you fine folks if you're new readers to the site.I'm now looking forward to getting to see The Lightbox - a brand new Toronto film venue unveiled during TIFF but far too busy for me to get to.Duelling Michael Caines!!!Y'all have no clue how much I'm looking forward to a home cooked meal.Thank you all so much for reading about my experiences over the last week. Perhaps some of y'all will come join me next year!

Was awesome coverage Mad, now be sure to get some well earned rest. I had difficulty keeping up reading your posts, I have no clue how you managed to watch + write them all. I'll assume some dark art aided you, and begin my process of harvesting your powers (but that can wait a couple of days).
Woo hoo! Congrats Hatter, you did an awesome job covering this. Lucky for you to have seen sooo many films! I'm with Univarn, can't even keep up with your posts, but I will forward your Black Swan review to my friend Vince who's highly anticipating it.
@ Univarn... It was a lot to read over, so I'm not bummed about anybody not taking in everything that I put out there.
As for "how I did it"...believe it or not, the rather staggered screening schedule was a really big help.
@ Ruth... Hopefully Vince likes what I have to say. That was one of the trickiest ones to do since I forgot to take any notes. I might have to see it again before I give it a full review.
Why didn't you see The King's Speech? Disappointed you missed it now that it won? Great coverage! I should've been there but since I wasn't I read your thoughts! Thanks for giving us this look into it.
Not sick of the TIFF coverage in the least. I will lower my hand to the ground on this one. Definitely planning on going next year, will have to buy you a beer.
Also, what does your business card look like? Thinking of printing up some of my own, will need pointers.
Too bad you didn't get a chance to see the Lightbox - most critics whose reaction I read said it was nothing less than stunning. Nevertheless, you should be very proud of your coverage because I imagine that it would be tough to stick to a tight schedule in such an environment.
@ Snobby... I had nothing against THE KING'S SPEECH per se, there were just other films I wanted to see more...a scheduling conflicts galore, the bane of any festival-goer.
I'll be sure to catch it in theatres when it's released. Thanks for following my coverage!
@ Aiden... We'd love to have you take part in this madness. Even if you can just come up for the first weekend, you can get a great dose of what this experience is all about.
Drop me an email and I'll send you some info on my business card.
@ Danny... Keep an eye on my blog in the coming weeks. Lady Hatter and I have decided to get a membership to The Lightbox (It's a year-round venue), so I should be doing a post with my experience soon.
I must say, I had a great time at my first full festival experience - there was only one disasterous choice that I regret.
Great coverage, I'm so looking forward to doing it again next year :)
You cover TIFF just as thoroughly as the big boys (i.e. InContention, /Film) and I appreciate it to no end.
@ Danger... Yep, it certainly is a cinematic drug. One hit and the next thing you know you're spending your vacation on it year after year.
Oh - and since it'll be covered in the feedback section of the next Matineecast, what was your favorite TIFF film?
@ Fitz... Wow...That is high praise dude. And here was me thinking that I wasn't covering it as well as I have in years past!
Many thanks!!
Hey Mad Hatter, did you see Denis Villeneuve's 'Incendies'?
@ Edgar... Can't say that I did. Did I miss out on something epic?
Yup.
