It's been just over a week since TIFF announced its first round of selections, and I still find myself a little underwhelmed. It should be noted that I'm certain this feeling won't last, and I'm certain I'll have fun. I think the only reason for my slight disappointment comes from an article in The Toronto Star that morning about potential gets for the festival, and how few of those gets actually materialized.
One film I am excited to potentially see, is directed by a director I've always admired. To boot - it's stacked with a very talented young cast. The only question I have, is whether I'll be able to refrain from reading the book this month in anticipation...

That's the problem I'm faced with now. Do I read the book?....Do I NOT read the book. The fact that this is one of the few trailers I actually seeked out goes to show how much I'm anticipating it.
Wow, this looks bizarre and great at the same time. I haven't seen i good British film in a while! Really looking forward to this now. I love the cinematography in this trailer. Looks very vintagy and dark.
I'm looking forward to this one but I don't think the trailer does a great job at setting it up. I saw the trailer for the first time in the theater and when it was over there was a lot of "WTF?" type comments from people in the row behind me.
Jesus christ that looks amazing. I cannot believe that take with him screaming in front of the car. I'm in, all the way.
This looks depressing. My sister read the book, and was nearly catatonic for two days (nearly beating her three-day record for The Hunger Games). Not a good sign, friend.
@ Andrew... After I posted this I realized that I have no more books waiting in the 'to-read' stack, so I think my decision is made.
@ Vanessa... I know, right? I'm chalking that up to Mark Romanek, the director. He's done a boatload of the very best music videos, and was also behind what I believe to be a truly underrated film - ONE HOUR PHOTO.
@ Norma... I'd rather take a trailer that underinforms versus one that gives away the whole darned movie.
@ Matt... So I guess that's one less film you'll have to research come TIFF, eh?
@ Simon... Depressing is a genre I dig!
Ecstatic that Romanek is back in the game again. Been a long time since One Hour Photo and I haven't seen a music video in ages from him or anyone else. Gotta love The Perfect Drug though. Can't wait for this.
@ Aiden... Indeed! But I must see your "Perfect Drug" and raise you his work on Johnny Cash's version of "Hurt" - one of the all-time best music videos for me.
It's going to be a little nuts, but yet it looks like it's going to bring a lot of Kleenex to the theaters.
I recently saw this trailer when I went to see "The Kids Are All Right." I never heard of this book and the trailer made me feel like, "What the heck is going on here?" It's on my list to see now, I just hope it makes sense! Looks kind of weird.
@ CMRok... I'm reading the book now, so I'll be able to tell for certain long before opening weekend.
@ Colleen... I hadn't heard of it until the first time I saw the trailer online, and now I can't wait to see it.
I don't think it'll be that weird...I just think the trailer is trying to be cryptic - which I'll gladly take over a trailer that tells us everything!
Oh btw - thanks for reading!
