"I see all this potential, and I see squandering.

God damn it, an entire generation pumping gas, waiting tables; slaves with white collars. Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy shit we don't need.

We're the middle children of history, man. No purpose or place. We have no Great War. No Great Depression. Our Great War's a spiritual war... our Great Depression is our lives.

We've all been raised on television to believe that one day we'd all be millionaires, and movie gods, and rock stars. But we won't. And we're slowly learning that fact.
And we're very, very pissed off..."

Amazing use of Tyler Durden there Mad! And just an awesome post in general.c
Wow, those pics are so similar to some of the shit thats going down in Puerto Rico, where I live. People are just freaking angry at the government! Very cool post!
Tyler Durden was so right! Except for one thing: I fully expect a severe economic depression in our near future (1-5 years). Hopefully, it won't tear our social fabric apart...
Brilliant post Hatter!!!
A lot of people lost the point of Fight Club. These extremists love to recite Durden's dialogue, but completely lose focus of Fincher's pointed satire of their demented beliefs.
That was awesome, man. My buddy got caught up in that bulshit police corral on Sunday in the rain - absolutely ridiculous.
Indeed, life has grown to be thoroughly depressing, but at least you've broken into the workforce while the getting was good. I'm in school, studying for jobs that don't exist yet, based off a faith system that won't be there in a year. Instead of practical knowledge, shit I can use, I absolutely must know how many people die of drunk driving every year and how to properly communicate with my peers and to appreciate my body for what it is, but at the same time, I must be 'healthy' (ie very, very thin), and they groom our egos so that by the time we reach college, we're useless frat boys and/or psuedo-academics who either wear Guevera T-shirts (but don't know who he is) or aspire to Jersey Shore fame. We will graduate into an atmosphere where its years of soul-crushing work and unpayable dept or living with your parents (or a gaggle of asshole roommatws).
Rant done. Fine.
I take that Lakers comment back... YOU WIN!
And that is my favorite quote from my favorite film... nice choice!
@ Univarn... Garcias amigo.
@ TFC... I feel sadly sheltered right now. Pardon me while i read up on what's happening in Puerto Rico.
@ Castor... Recession is one thing, Depression would be disastrous (ever read "The Grapes of Wrath"?). Here's hoping you're wrong.
@ Danger Girl... As mentioned, if it weren't for the inherent risk, I'd taken photos somethin' like these.
@ Fitz... Indeed, Palahniuk's story has been misinterpreted so many different ways. Ferchrissakes, we're talking about men who have to beat the holy shot out of each other just to feel alive.
Is that really what one should follow as a totem?
@ Cynics... Your buddy got caught at the wrong place at the wrong time. Not sure if he was just caught unawares, or if he didn't think fast enough to get out of the way.
Whatever the case, the cops took that long to weed out more would-be anarchists from another swell of protestors hiding amongst the innocent bystanders your buddy was part of.
@ Simon... Profound. Just don't set my city on fire because of all that, OK?
@ Kai... As I mentioned, I'd gladly take the Laker riot, if it meant my city could get it's first NBA Championship banner.
And to top it off, you're probably losing Chris Bosh! What a week!
Very well put together post. One of the great things about living in Ireland is that we never have to worry about that sort of thing - most of our disturbances are dismissed by a Garda uttering "Ah, now, c'mon..."
Except those "Love Ulster" riots a few years back, the ones they used as stock footage in the V premiere. Jaysus, we'll never live that down.
